外交部23日晚間表示，英國王室劍橋公爵夫人凱特王妃，於22日順利產下王位第三順位繼承人，對此馬英九總統立即於23日致函伊莉莎白二世女王，申致我國祝賀之意。
總統在賀函中提到：「欣逢貴國劍橋公爵弄璋之喜，本人代表中華民國（臺灣）政府與人民，祝賀女王陛下喜獲首位曾孫，我國人民同感歡忭。」
外交部還指出，對於英國女王去年親臨雀兒喜花展（Chelsea Flower Show），讚賞參展的台灣蘭花一事，馬英九表示榮幸，並希望兩國友好關係長久密切。
而這封賀函，將請中華民國駐英國代表處儘速轉致。
