Clayton Kershaw在場上威風凜凜、殺氣騰騰，但下了場，就成為雪中送炭、熱心助人的愛心大使，因此獲得今年的Branch Rickey獎，是史上最年輕得主(25歲)。
這個獎的名稱來自前道奇隊高層Branch Rickey，這位優秀的球團行政人員，走在時代的前端，創立小聯盟體系，並打破種族障礙，為道奇隊簽下第一位黑人球員Jackie Robinson。因為這個淵源，Kershaw覺得獲獎更有意義。
「Branch Rickey是位影響力源遠流長的人物，對道奇隊來說更是這樣，因此，我覺得這個獎是很特別的。」Kershaw說。
Kershaw跟太太Ellen成立「Kershaw’s Challenge基金會」，援助那些在社會邊緣的青少年，更成立「非洲崛起」活動，在非洲國家建設孤兒院，每年Kershaw都會到非洲，跟這些孤兒碰面，宣導防治愛滋病。
「有能力從事公益，內人跟我都覺得十分幸運，」Kershaw說，「受表揚並非我們的本意，但獲得這個獎，真的令我銘感五內。更重要的是，讓大家知道我們的目標是什麼，可以共襄盛舉。對我們來說，這個獎是一項很大的榮耀，我們非常感激。」 (接下一頁)
