天氣轉涼，是呼吸道傳染病感染的高峰期，新北市衛生局為維護市民健康，降低感染流感病毒或肺炎鏈球菌導致嚴重併發症或死亡之風險，公費流感及肺炎鏈球菌疫苗10月1日起開打。衛生局科長李佳琪指出，今年共採購45萬劑，打完為止，鼓勵符合資格者儘速接受施打，而未符合資格者也希望能自費施打。
臺大小兒科呂俊毅醫師表示，長者及幼兒是感染流感病毒或肺炎鏈球菌的高危險群，流感病毒除了會導致併發症以外，也會因病毒破壞上呼吸道黏膜的細胞，使得原本在鼻腔或咽喉內的肺炎鏈球菌有機會藉由呼吸道或血液入侵，造成細菌性肺炎，或引發腦膜炎、腹膜炎、敗血症等嚴重併發症。並強調長者及幼童以左「流感」右「肺鏈」雙管齊下的方式接種，可同時獲得雙重保護，降低疾病的威脅。
衛生局指出，由於疫苗接種後2至4週始能形成最佳的防護效果，請符合條件的民眾，儘速攜帶身份證或兒童健康手冊及健保卡，到衛生所或合約醫院診所接種。
李佳琪表示，流感疫苗公費對象包括設籍新北市60歲以上、出生滿6個月以上嬰幼兒至國小6年級學童、醫事及衛生防疫、禽畜養殖業及重大傷病患者等；而公費肺炎鏈球菌疫苗為設籍75歲以上或1歲以上未滿5歲幼童，為降低疾病威脅，民眾應儘早施打，也建議符合兩項條件者，可以左手打流感疫苗，右手打肺炎鏈球菌疫苗雙管齊下方式，獲得雙重保護。
